Dominion Okoro was found guilty of killing Madam Maria Igbinedion, the mother of the former governor of Edo state, Lucky Igbinedion.

She has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Okoro worked as the 85-year-old grandmother’s housekeeper for years. On December 2, 2021, she killed the grandmother in cold blood at her home in GRA Benin City and took her money, jewelry, and other valuables.

Okoro told the Edo state Police Command that the woman who died had never done anything to her and that she killed her because she wanted to steal her money. This was after she had been arrested and questioned by the police.

Read what she said below,

“I killed Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion) so I could take her money. She didn’t make me mad. At 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, I hit her on the head with a stool while she was sleeping in her bed. She yelled for help, but only the gateman was around, and he didn’t hear her. Mama later died.

I didn’t leave the house with Mama’s N100,000, wristwatch, and jewelry until 4 a.m. on December 2, 2021. I ran away to Cross River State, but the police caught me there.”

Dominion and her sister, Patience Okoro, who is accused of helping with the crime, were brought to court on Monday, June 20, where the final verdict was given.

Dominion was found guilty on all three counts of the charges against her. She was sentenced to death by hanging for murder, robbery with violence, and putting harmful substances on her late boss.
