On Thursday, the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State’s Ilesa West Local Government Area was disrupted by people who couldn’t be found.
Eyewitnesses say that the unidentified people, who were thought to be political thugs, stormed the place where the PVCs were being collected and scared the people who had come to get their PVCs. They ran for safety.
After the attack, the Electoral Officer for the local government of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had to temporarily stop giving out PVCs to keep people safe.
In a conversation with reporters, the Osun INEC spokesperson, Osimosu Oluwaseun, confirmed the news and said that it was true.
She did say, though, that the problem had been fixed and that the exercise would go on as planned tomorrow, Friday, June 24, 2022.
