Shehu Sani, who used to be a senator from Kaduna Central, has spoken out about the arrest of Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, in the UK.
Earlier, Naijaloaded said that Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested in London by the UK Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Team for allegedly plotting to take an organ from a child.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said that the two planned to help a child get to the country so that the child’s organs could be taken.
The police also said that the investigation was started after detectives in May 2022 were made aware of possible violations of laws against modern slavery.
The police say that the child is being cared for in protective custody, and that its agents are working closely with partners to make sure that the support continues.
But the two people who were charged and brought before the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court were not given bail and will stay in jail until July 7.
In response, Sani sent out a tweet on his Twitter account asking Nigerians to be patient about the situation and watch how the UK courts handle it.
The former Senator said that because of Ekweremadu’s position, all Nigerians’ names and reputations are at stake in a case like this.
he typed;
“Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu: The court of public opinion should be patient and wait to see what happens in the UK. There’s no doubt that this is his case, but because of the position he held, the name and reputation of all Nigerians are at stake in a situation like this.”
