The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has refuted reports that he has endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president, calling them blatantly false and nasty.

His Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, said this in a statement.

Obaseki claimed that the rumor was being spread by his critics in order to deceive the people and further their own personal agendas.

The statement said, in part, “The news item in a section of the media indicating that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has received the endorsement of Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is entirely untrue and malicious. There was no such statement made by the governor.

“The tale is being spread by opponents with hidden agendas who want to mislead and misinform the public for their own gain.”

The governor’s assistant added, “Governor Obaseki has been at the forefront of the campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running partner, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, since the beginning of the electioneering season.

He continued, “Obaseki, as the PDP’s leader in Edo State, would use his enormous support network to assure the success of our party and its candidates in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
