How a Man Ruined His Wife’s Academic Diplomas During a Fight

After it was alleged that he destroyed his wife’s academic qualifications during an altercation, a Kenyan man was charged with malicious damage to property.

In front of the Kibera Law Courts in Nairobi on Friday, June 24, Francis Chege Wanjiru was charged with willfully and illegally burning Esther Wangechi Mwai’s KCSE and Diploma certificates, both of which were granted by the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec).

At the couple’s residence in the Waithaka neighborhood along Kikuyu Road in Dagoretti Sub County, Nairobi, the accused allegedly committed the crime on June 22, 2022.

The guy and his wife got into a fight after just getting home late one night.

Before rushing out of the house, he is said to have taken documents that were in an envelope and torn them to bits.

After Ms. Mwai reported the incident to the authorities in Waithaka, her husband was taken into custody.

Before Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kutto, the accused refuted the allegations and was granted release on a surety bond of Sh50,000 with an additional Sh10,000 cash bail.

On July 12, the matter will be discussed in order to set the dates for the preliminary hearing.
